Unhinged is proud to announce that our co-founder, Oran Tobin, has agreed to take up the position of our first ever Composer in Residence.
Oran Tobin is a composer, collaborator, and co-founder of Unhinged. His work sits at the intersection of classical tradition and contemporary expression, drawing on a deep engagement with Irish musical heritage, theatrical storytelling, and the kind of raw, live energy that only comes from making work that matters.
As Composer in Residence, Oran will lead the development of new works across Unhinged's six creative pillars: from chamber operas and choral pieces to original scores for poetry salons and workshop performances. He will also mentor emerging composers and collaborate with artists across all of Unhinged's ensembles.
Oran's practice is rooted in collaboration. He believes that the best music is made in conversation. With performers, with audiences, with the space it is made in. This residency is an opportunity to deepen that conversation across everything Unhinged does.
We could not be prouder. Oran has been part of Unhinged from the very beginning. Shaping its vision, its values, and its artistic direction. To have him step into this role as our first Composer in Residence feels like the most natural and exciting next step for the organisation. There is no one we trust more to shape the sound of what comes next.
The Composer in Residence role sits at the heart of Unhinged's artistic programme. Over the coming months and seasons, Oran will:
We are excited to see what Oran creates in this new chapter. More announcements about his first projects will follow soon.
